Somatic-based approaches are focused less on the narrative and more on the experience in and of the body. The goal is to help the body and psyche release energetic blockages caused by past and current experiences.

This may involve a combination of methods to create a grounded presence; to notice and intentionally experience sensations, feelings and emotions; and to engage the body’s energy with vibration/sound and movement.

Somatic Experiencing® is a type of somatic therapy that helps to facilitate the completion of your natural trauma response cycle that involves the release of trapped survival energy bound in the body. This is done by gently guiding clients to develop increasing awareness and tolerance for difficult bodily sensations, especially repressed or suppressed emotions.

The release and integration of blocked energy in the body helps to balance and support the nervous system by engaging the root cause of trauma symptoms, and restoring a sense of calm and safety to the body-mind-heart connection.
